The Boys Presents: Diabolical

Short and... just about anything other than sweet.

Homelander introduces a very short-lived member of The Seven - from The Boys Presents: Diabolical

MOVIES

- I have watched two movies that I've never seen before!

- That's not a joke either, I really have thanks to getting through the pair on the last day of my free Amazon Prime trial.

- Next week I'll be writing about The Iron Claw, and the week after will be about Tag.

- And despite being about entirely different things, both have really great stuff in them let down by some significant flaws.

GAMES

- Nothing finished, but I am burning through Killer Frequency, so I'll be writing about that in a few weeks' time.

- I'm also tearing through the bounty hunters in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor and once they're done, I'll be polishing that game off soon after.

- I've installed Assassin's Creed Valhalla on my Series S, although I'm waiting to finish with Survivor before indulging my inner Viking.

- I'm also getting through Baldur's Gate 3 at a far faster pace than either of my previous trips through the game; knowing what you're doing helps so much!

TV

- I had completely blanked The Boys Presents: Diabolical from my mind until Prime Video suggested it for me after finishing The Boys' second season.

- And I can see why, with the majority of the stories being non-canon to the show and them all being rather short in length.

- From one point of view, the brevity of each story is pretty great as they never wear out their welcome and keep things fresh from episode to episode as a result.

- However, each story being only around 12-15 minutes in length means there's no real time to connect to the characters or what's happening to them.

- It's nice to see the world of The Boys (including the original comics) being brought to life with different styles and sensibilities, with each episode looking and feeling different from the next.

- There's also the fact that most of the characters from the show are voiced by the people who played them, which does help somewhat although none of them are really given any great material to work with.

- Strangely for The Boys, there are some relatively upbeat endings across the season too, although there not being a sting in the tail does help explain the non-canonicity of most of them.

- I did enjoy The Boys Presents: Diabolical, but the lack of substance and most episodes not 'counting' means that it's also pretty safe to skip. [6/10]
