LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga
May the Force be with you if you want to enjoy this.
MOVIES
- No new movies watched, or old movies re-watched, to write about, but I have watched Inside Out again ahead of the sequel coming to Disney+ next week and it's still as enjoyable and sad as it always is.
- So yes, there will be a new movie review soon, but not for a couple of weeks yet!
GAMES
- To be upfront, LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga fell foul of my 'Endgame Rule', as I realised I was forcing myself to play something I wasn't enjoying just short of the 4 hours played mark.
- That disclaimer is just to point out that I haven't finished and I can tell you right now that I never will.
- There's nothing particularly wrong about the game, as it looks and sounds fantastic, and I can't really complain about the controls either, which at the very minimum get the job done.
- Saying that, it's still jarring that the environments aren't LEGO like the upcoming Horizon game, which is a little disappointing considering how much time you can spend in them.
- The biggest issue the LEGO Skywalker Saga has is that it does feel like it's been designed directly to appeal to children and Star Wars superfans only.
- I do realise that there's a big crossover there, but it's not a perfect overlap, and this game should appeal to most people who are happy to be easily distracted as well.
- There are so many optional activities and secrets to discover that the game feels more designed to keep occupied with those rather than tell the story of the movies.
- Honestly, I stopped not far into the Attack of the Clones story having done maybe 10-15% of the side activities at most and that was 4 hours gone.
- Spending that long watching the movies would leave me 30 minutes from the end of Clones; now imagine how much time would've elapsed if I'd done all of the optional stuff.
- And following the story of the movies isn't that great either, thanks to the addition of voice acting which might sound weird.
- The thing is, I liked the other LEGO Star Wars games because of the lack of dialogue forcing the developers to be creative visually and come up with some very funny, effectively-silent comedy.
- Some of that still remains, but adding voice acting (which is fine, to be clear) just makes it feel like you're watching a low-budget LEGO adaptation with the odd sight gag thrown in.
- This is another one of those pieces of media that show how poorly scores can reflect the 'quality' of something due to how laser-focused on a particular demographic it is.
- To put it bluntly, if the person playing this is a child, someone who suffers from attention deficiency, or a massive, massive Star Wars fan, then you'll most likely absolutely love it.
- If you're not part of that target audience, then it may be best to just play this through Game Pass like I did, because once you get a general feel for how it plays, you've pretty much experienced it all.
- Scoring LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga seems a little pointless as it's pretty much perfect for the target audience, but easy for me to recommend you avoid it if you're not part of that audience, so... [6/10]?
TV
- I have finished watching The Boys Presents: Diabolical, which I will write about next week.
- My free Prime trial runs out on Saturday, so I won't be finishing any more seasons of TV from that streaming service before then, so will be turning my attention back to The West Wing in the near future.
- After I've said my goodbyes to that show, I'll finally try and get back to the Star Wars TV shows like I said I would 12-18 months ago, but who knows if that will stick...
