August Schedule

We're well over halfway through 2020 now and I haven't played any of the major titles released for a number of reasons. The Last of Us Part II needs to wait until I can play the first game; Ghost of Tsushima is open world, which I kind of want to avoid having only recently finished Assassin's Creed Odyssey; and Cyberpunk 2077 isn't out yet.

That leaves Final Fantasy VII Remake, which I had originally been put off thanks to watching some YouTubers playing it and making the game look a bit of a slog. Wanting to play at least one big game though, I took advantage of there being a demo for the remake and tore through it pretty rapidly, enjoying playing it far more than watching others struggling.

This doesn't mean that FFVIIR is the big game of 2020 that I'll play through first, but it's the leading contender right now. It looks pretty damned great on my PS4 Pro and I played through the original waaay back when so I do have some familiarity with the story and characters too. But just to make sure, I have played through one 2020 game that is getting reviewed this month...

Thursday 6th August - movie review: Terminator Salvation

My trip through the 'Terminator Quadrilogy' comes to an end and the first set after Skynet nuked the human race almost into extinction, but this movie doesn't have the greatest reputation - franchise terminated?

Monday 10th August - movie review: The Bourne Supremacy

Jason Bourne returns for more action shenanigans in the middle part of the initial trilogy of movies, although this series is more like three separate stories in the same continuity rather than a single large story broken into three parts.

Thursday 13th August - game review: a new life.

My first 2020 'game' of the year! A short and heavily choice-based visual novel that I picked up during the Steam summer sale, even though it wasn't on sale.

Monday 17th August - movie review: The Witch

I've seen this before and enjoyed it, with the ending standing out in my memory as being especially great, so it'll be interesting to see if the movie remains as good a second time through.

Thursday 20th August - movie review: Crimson Peak

While there are ghosts in this movie, it's not quite a horror film although some might still be scared thanks to just how good the spirits look in this movie that I remember watching fondly years ago.

Monday 24th August - movie review: Gone Girl

Continuing the run of movies I saw once years ago and am now watching a second time, I remember thinking that Rosamund Pike's career would skyrocket after this, but it never happened - a shame, as she's pretty great here

Thursday 27th August - game review: Doki Doki Literature Club!

Much like a new life., this is a visual novel, although how the story plays out is actually nothing like its appearance would suggest. This is a good one and it's free!

Monday 31st August - movie review: Big Hero 6

Another superhero movie based on a Marvel comic, but not a part of any cinematic universe - although we do get another Stan Lee cameo!
